Geography of Japan

Japan is located in the Pacific Ocean and comprises of four primary islands: Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku. Tokyo is its capital and the largest city. It is surrounded by the Sea of Japan to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east. Japan is known for its mountainous landscape with over 70% being mountainous terrain. The highest peak in Japan is Mount Fuji with a height of 3,776 meters. Additionally, there are numerous active volcanoes in Japan. Furthermore, Japan is also known for its numerous rivers and lakes. The major rivers in Japan are the Shinano, Tone, and Ishikari rivers. The largest lake in Japan is Lake Biwa. Japan experiences four seasons with summer being warm and humid while winter can be very chilly with snowfall being common.
