Rivers of Japan

Among the many famous rivers in Japan, here are four of the famous rivers.

Shinano River

The first is the Shinano River, the longest river in Japan. This river originates in the mountains of Nagano Prefecture and flows through Nagano and Niigata prefectures before emptying into the Sea of Japan. The Shinano River is popular with tourists throughout the year, and is especially beautiful during the season of autumn leaves.

Kamo River

The second is the Kamo River, one of Kyoto’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots. This river flows through Kyoto City and offers beautiful scenery in each of the four seasons. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, in summer, there are river cruises and festivals, and in autumn, the autumn leaves are beautiful. There are also many cafes and restaurants along the river, making it a popular spot for strolling.

Ishikari River

The third river is the Ishikari River. This river is located in Hokkaido and flows through the Ishikari Plain and empties into Ishikari Bay. The Ishikari River is popular for outdoor experiences such as rafting, which is held for a limited time only, and attracts many tourists in the summer.

Chikugo River

The fourth river is the Chikugo River in Fukuoka Prefecture. The Chikugo River is the largest river in Kyushu and flows through the Chikushi Plain, centering on Kurume City and Omuta City. This river is rich in nature and historical legacies, and visitors can enjoy river sports and sightseeing. Fireworks displays are especially beautiful in summer, attracting many tourists.
